Understanding your digital maturity is the first step to understand your potential as an organization. If your digital maturity is high, you are capable of utilizing digital trends and technologies to gain competitive advantages in your business. On the other side, a low digital maturity will cause your organization significant negative effects. Delayed and costly IT projects without adding value to your business and no or slow digital innovation are the most common issues due to low digital maturity.

2. Adoption of Digital Tools

  • A) We use very few digital tools, and mostly rely on manual processes and excel.
  • B) We use some digital tools, but they’re not integrated.
  • C) We’ve standardized certain digital tools across the organization.
  • D) We have integrated digital platforms that are widely used.

Interpreting Your Results

Based on your answers, you’ll fall into one of five digital maturity levels:

  • Mostly A: Initial / Ad-hoc
    If you find yourself with mostly A’s, your organization is in the early stages of its digital transformation journey. This means there’s a lot of room for growth. Digital initiatives are sporadic and lack direction, and there may be resistance to adopting digital tools and methods. It’s crucial at this stage to recognize the importance of digital transformation and start laying the groundwork.
  • Mostly B: Developing / Opportunistic
    Scoring mostly B’s suggests you’ve made initial steps in the digital realm but lack a cohesive strategy. While there’s some adoption of digital tools and methods, these efforts often exist in silos and lack full integration. This is an opportunity to foster a more coordinated approach and harness digital tools more effectively.
  • Mostly C: Defined / Formalized
    Those with mostly C’s have a defined digital approach, but there might be inconsistencies in its application across the organization. There’s a recognized need for digital transformation, and certain processes and tools are becoming standardized. The challenge now is to deepen and integrate these processes across all departments.
  • Mostly D: Managed / Integrated
    With a score dominated by D’s, your organization showcases a mature digital approach. Digital tools, strategies, and processes are evident and regularly reviewed. The focus should be on continuous improvement and ensuring that all parts of the organization are integrated into this digital mindset.
  • Mostly E: Optimized / Transformative:
    Landing with mostly E’s means digital is ingrained in your organization’s DNA. There’s a continuous push for innovation, and the company often leads in setting digital trends. Here, the goal is to maintain the lead, constantly innovate, and ensure that the entire organization’s culture embodies digital-first thinking.
