Stay Safe Online – How do hackers actually take control of your data?
Since October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) in the US, it seems like a good time to offer you a post outlining a few of the most popular hacking methods used to get at your data.
Of course, a more technical audience such as ours will know a lot of this, but even experts get lazy or complacent, and that’s where we slip up. The recent credit card security breaches at stores like Home Depot and Target, where more than 90 million accounts were compromised around the world could have been avoided if proper security measures were put in place. The same applies to other cyber attacks such as phishing. Now more than ever we must continuously educate ourselves and others about how to keep our information safe online.
The good people at Singlehop have put together a handy PDF outlining the perils of not giving due attention to cyber security, what methods are being used there, and what you can do to protect yourself online. Password security is important, but it can only get you so far, so it’s important for consumers to demand that merchants use dedicated servers to store customer data. Check out their PDF below!
